TV Recap: Brooklyn Nine-Nine - "Greg and Larry"

The Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for a third season of hilarity and crime. After an impressive first season that chronicled one of the best new ensembles solving problems and forming unexpected relationships, the series is back to tackle bigger things. Will it be as great as the first season? Stay tuned every Wednesday for the recap on that week's episode to find out through interesting tidbits including the best jokes and what the crew is up to that week.

Crime of the Week: Holt (Andre Braugher) and the team track down Bob and attempt to arrest him among Figgis' men interfering.

Peralta Problem: With the help of the precinct, Peralta (Andy Samberg) must make Bob snap.

Subplot of the Week: Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) and Santiago (Melissa Fumero) must travel and meet up with the gang while having a problematic airplane flight.

Best Joke: When they try to get information out of Bob, the precinct decides to try and break him by doing a series of things. This includes performing jazz, brandishing weapons, and talking about hypothetical families in a comedic montage.

Culprit: They capture Bob, but Figgis is still looming large.

Resolution: The gang manages to meet up and arrest Bob. He reveals that he was going crazy and ran mad with power. When the mission is complete, Peralta receives a call from Figgis claiming that he is going to murder him. The episode ends with Peralta and Holt as neighbors with new identities.

Verdict: Overall, a solid finale to an otherwise good season. While this is a madcap episode that reflects what everyone does well, it does still feel like a bit of a confusing letdown that Figgis was not captured. However, it does raise a lot of questions as to why Holt and Peralta are neighbors with new identities. Still, a funny episode with plenty of memorable bits. Still, it's a strangely anticlimactic way to end the season.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Overall Thoughts: While the show is still working in top shape, there's a sense that the groove is getting too familiar. The average episode is still enjoyable and the gang has gotten more interesting as they have gotten more personal. However, the final stretch of episodes do remain a little underwhelming and make you wish that it would be resolved sooner than later. The show isn't bad, but you kind of know what to expect from the show at this point.

Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5
