TV Recap: Brooklyn Nine-Nine - "The Pontiac Bandit Returns"

Craig Robinson
The Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for a second season of hilarity and crime. After an impressive first season that chronicled one of the best new ensembles solving problems and forming unexpected relationships, the series is back to tackle bigger things. Will it be as great as the first season? Stay tuned every Wednesday for the recap on that week's episode to find out through interesting tidbits including the best jokes and what the crew is up to that week.

Robinson
Crime of the Week: The Pontiac Bandit (Craig Robinson) returns to help Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) take down a drug ring.

Left to right: Robinson and Andy Samberg
Peralta Problem: While helping out The Pontiac Bandit, he must keep him from escaping by treating him to some crazy demands.

Terry Crews
Subplot of the Week: Santiago (Melissa Fumero), with the help of Jeffords (Terry Crews) must come up with a gift for Holt (Andre Braugher)

Best Joke: In the opening segment, after capturing The Pontiac Bandit, Peralta ends up setting a tree lot on fire. As he sees a group of kids passing by, they witness the tragedy as he declares that this is what happens when people are naughty. It is a surreal way to open up the episode.

Culprit: Peralta manages to capture the drug kingpin. However, The Pontiac Bandit gets away in a cunning and elaborate plan.

Left to right: Stephen Root and Sandra Bernhard
Resolution: Peralta gets his drug kingpin, but loses The Pontiac Bandit. Holt accepts Santiago's gift because he believes that she did the right thing by proving him wrong. Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) and Gina (Chelsea Peretti) have to deal with their parents (Stephen Root and Sandra Bernhard) dating each other.

Verdict: The Pontiac Bandit was a highlight of the first season and it is great to see him come back. I like that they manage to do the same joke of him escaping from Peralta's clutches without making it redundant. Samberg and Robinson have great chemistry together and make the episode rather strong. I also like that the parents are starting to get taken seriously while making the story particularly more bizarre. There's a lot of great stuff with each plot being rather strong. Great gags overall.
