:Listmania: Best of Inventory 2014 (#1-10)

As the year comes to an end, it is important to point out the best of the best. Over the course of Listmania, we have talked about a lot of memorable pop culture moments. While this is still present in this weekend edition, it is more of a focus on the articles that I wrote that I feel were noteworthy in 2014. While most are special pop culture dissections, others were personal odes to the past. The following is a list of 20 articles that I feel best represent my year in writing that I feel you should give another shot.

Robin Williams

Comments: Robin Williams was a man of many talents that make his passing a rather noteworthy and tragic event. He meant so much to me that I ended up writing a four part dedication to him that encapsulates my feelings towards his work in those multi-hyphenate fields.

Comments: 22 Jump Street is an entirely awful movie with a very hollow heart. However, its meta humor is just a clone of the far superior Scream franchise, which subverted movie tropes for laughs in the 90's to much greater effect.

Comments: It is a forgotten and strange moment of the year in which Epix decided to air Nebraska in color against everyone's wishes. This is an article that focuses on why the absence of color benefited the film and why it is sometimes important to not have the colors on display.

4. Article: Channel Surfing: The Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremony

Comments: While I am not a sports fan, I do enjoy watching the Olympics. With a lot of strange Russian politics interfering, this article was more of a commentary on why the country should be more willing to embrace art.

Comments: It was the first website to take a chance on me as a movie critic, and for that I am really grateful. This is more of a personal note on how working for the website helped to make me a more experienced and better writer.

Comments: Between Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel, the director has killed off a lot of animals. This is an attempt to unify each of the films into one grand narrative about life through death.

Rosamund Pike

Comments: Gone Girl is definitely a film that was ripe with controversy thanks to its main character and her devious ways. However, there's a lot more to her that I feel is worth taking note of in making her the best female character of 2014.

Comments: This may be my favorite column that I started doing this year if for no other reason than to understand the films that didn't do so well at the Oscars. Of the few that I have done so far, Brokeback Mountain remains a personal favorite for how weirdly regressive its loss actually was and how much sense Crash's win makes afterwards.

Comments: Community ended its fifth season on a rather problematic note for me, as I felt that it made a caricature of its best character. Here is my reasoning for why Abed is such an integral part of the show and my personal interest in the show.

Lana Del Rey

Comments: I think that Lana Del Rey may be one of the most unique and ambitious pop singers currently working and should get far more credit. Her latest album definitely gives plenty to chew on and even proves the point even more.
