Welcome to Podcast Portal: a spontaneous column that will highlight podcasts of all genres that are lesser known or new shows that are worth giving a listen. With the medium continuing to grow, it is hard to acknowledge all of them. However, I am going to try and find as many noteworthy titles as possible to share and hopefully expand your mind to the greatest growing medium out there. If you have any podcast that you feel is worth adding to the Podcast Portal, please make sure to inform me whether through the comments or through an e-mail (information in sidebar).
SHOW: The Sylvester Stallone Podcast

NETWORK: Wolfpop Network
EPISODE BEING DISCUSSED: "Sly Fight"
HOSTS: Paul Scheer, "Sylvester Stallone"
NETWORK: Wolfpop Network
EPISODE BEING DISCUSSED: "Sly Fight"
*Note: For the next week (or until completion), I will be covering every single NEW podcast on the Wolfpop Network. I will not be covering older shows such as U Talkin' U2 to Me or How Did This Get Made.
While I have been reviewing the first episode of each show, I cheated and decided to do the second episode of this one. Why? Because the first episode was a poor excuse for a new show. It was so bad because I already knew the gimmick going in, though I hoped that it wouldn't be as obvious. Basically, it is a hype machine of sorts with Wolfpop founder Paul Scheer waiting until actor Sylvester Stallone stops by. In the first episode, he said that he wasn't there yet. In the second episode, guess what, he wasn't there yet. There is no substance to be had here.
Admittedly, I would have been excited if the show went in a different direction. Knowing Scheer from his work on How Did This Get Made, I was hoping that it would be a fictional version of Stallone coming into the show and answering questions in the disguise. For all I know, this is going to be a big reveal in a few episodes. However, to hold up the gimmick that he hasn't arrived yet is highly annoying, especially with this being a daily podcast. I could handle seven minute chunks if there was something of substance there beyond Scheer basically saying "Here's questions that we might ask him when he shows up." That is the joke, which has already been done on his bad movie podcast to much greater success.
To summarize, unless this show gets a better hook, it is already the worst show that the network has. Speaking as Scheer is a fan of crazy movies, some of which has included Stallone, I wanted this to have something of more substance. The false hype machine that fuels the first two episodes are so poor that I don't care to come back tomorrow. In fact, part of me just wants to just so I can get that message again of "He's not here." It's a poor version of Andy Kaufman coming back from the dead. Only, Stallone isn't dead. He's busy working someplace else. This show is annoying and reflects the downside to Scheer's network. He can own it and produce quality work, but he can't make a joke out of nothing like this. Give it more substance, please.
Rating: 1 out of 5
WORTH A SECOND GO?: I gave it a second go just to make sure that it wasn't just a bad episode. Sad to say, it is really as uninspired as listening to a show in which nothing happens and ends abruptly. It may amuse Scheer, but as an audience member, it does absolutely nothing of value for me. Skip this. In fact, just retire this instead of wasting your time daily, Mr. Scheer.
