TV Recap: Brooklyn Nine-Nine - "Adrian Pimento"

The Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for a third season of hilarity and crime. After an impressive first season that chronicled one of the best new ensembles solving problems and forming unexpected relationships, the series is back to tackle bigger things. Will it be as great as the first season? Stay tuned every Wednesday for the recap on that week's episode to find out through interesting tidbits including the best jokes and what the crew is up to that week.

Crime of the Week: Following an accident by Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), the precinct tries to convince their reluctant maintenance department to clean it up.

Peralta Problem: Returning precinct member Adrian Pimento (Jason Mantzoukas) has trouble adjusting, so he turns to Peralta (Andy Samberg) in order to live a normal-ish life.

Subplot of the Week: Holt (Andre Braugher) turns to Gina (Chelsea Peretti) to film a promotional video, only to find out that he disagrees with her approach to the project.

Best Joke: After Holt leaves the project, Gina hires a lookalike actor to play h is part. The only catch is that the actor has a whole drug-addled backstory and has comical, exaggerated features. When Holt expresses his disinterest in the casting, the actor imitates him flawlessly.

Culprit: The precinct realizes that they haven't been respecting the maintenance department, so they decide to name the break room after them. Boyle's celebration is notably messy.

Resolution: Peralta convinces Pimento that going undercover isn't usually that fun and that he shouldn't feel bad for being disappointed by his project. He wins over Pimento in the end. Meanwhile, the precinct manages to throw together a video that makes the maintenance department clean up Boyle's mess. The only issue is that Boyle's clumsiness leads to several more messes, undermining the achievement.

Verdict: There is something smart about having Jason Mantzoukas guest star in comedies. Among the supporting players making the rounds, his wild man persona is so infectious no matter where he goes. Thankfully, he fits right into the Brooklyn Nine-Nine universe and leads to one of the funnier episodes in awhile. It is also great to know that the subplot manages to introduce yet more members to the precinct and still manages to feel fresh and interesting. As a whole, this is an episode where the cast is doing everything that they do with gusto. Plenty of humor and it's always nice to hear Peralta get sentimental over his previous stint undercover.
