The Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for a third season of hilarity and crime. After an impressive first season that chronicled one of the best new ensembles solving problems and forming unexpected relationships, the series is back to tackle bigger things. Will it be as great as the first season? Crime of the Week: There is a criminal that is dispensing drugs around town, and it is up to the precinct to find him.
Peralta Problem: When he teams up with an old partner (Damon Wayans Jr.), Peralta (Andy Samberg) must choose between his new friend and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) to solve a crime.
Subplot of the Week: With another precinct interfering with work space, the gang must learn to work together and not just tear apart the entire building.
Best Joke: As Peralta and his old friend get ready for a stakeout, they do the familiar tradition of singing Beastie Boys songs. With their passing off of rhymes to each other, they discover that they forgot their third person: Boyle.
Culprit: The man whom Peralta had trusted this entire time actually was just planting drugs for his own entertainment.
Resolution: Peralta comes to terms with his friend's crooked ways while arresting him; thus choosing Boyle as the cooler cop. However, tension is still high at the precinct, so everyone still fights each other. Holt (Andre Braugher) decides to cause a diversion in order to get everyone out of the building and give him some peace.
Verdict: Another strong episode that manages to show a different side to the Boyle/Peralta relationship. While it doesn't have much else, it does continue to thicken the action cop tropes with Beastie Boys music and a twist on who the culprit is. The episode as a whole is strong and builds to a decent ending where despite all conflict, the three cannot help but enough each other's company as the friend is being arrested. It's a solid episode with plenty of laughs, though more of an average one than a great one.
