Welcome to the TV Recap series on the FXX original series You're the Worst. Join me every Thursday to unravel the chaos of TV's greatest/worst romantic couple as they try to get their lives together. Will this be the week that everything works out? Who cares. As long as they don't miss Sunday Funday, everything will be fine. So get your trash juice ready and prepare to do what normal people don't do as I review the plot and other major points from throughout the season. Hope you're ready. If not, too bad. "Improve comedy. Kill yourself."

Jimmy (Chris Geere) gets an offer to write the novelization version of NCIS: Los Angeles. When Gretchen (Aya Cash) gets tired of Lindsay (Kether Donohue) talking about nothing but men, she decides to start exploring other topics. Edgar (Desmin Borges) continues to get involved with improv comedy, finding that it is one of the most fulfilling parts of his life. Lindsay takes Gretchen's requests a little too seriously and begins to research global events. Jimmy reveals that he is a fraud and doesn't want to write the NCIS: Los Angeles story. While out with his improv buddies, Edgar gets his phone stolen, thus misleading Lindsay's flirtacious text. Jimmy reveals to Gretchen his 11-year-old erotic fiction, which turns her on. As in keeping with the previous episode, Gretchen leaves. However, Jimmy is awake this time and is aware of her departure.

NCIS: Los Angeles
Is it the greatest TV series in history, or is Jimmy just lying to get an easy project? Either way, it takes a lot out of him as he tries and charts the progression of his story. The novelization should technically be way easier than what he's got in his mind. However, it destroys him, forcing him to push his ideals onto the world around him. As he gets advice from his erotic fiction, he slumps further into a hole as he is unable to continue work. By the end of the episode, NCIS: Los Angeles is looking less and less like a plausible candidate for best show ever and more like the breaking point for Jimmy.
Worst Moment
It's pretty tough to be a feminist. It's even harder to not realize that you're not when you think you are, especially after hate-watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey. However, to do it at a yogurt store in front of a male employee is even more embarrassing. As Lindsay and Gretchen discuss their distaste for men, they create an unpleasant picture of themselves, choosing to defile small things within the building in order to meet their convenience. However, dismissing men directly in front of a man is probably the icing on the cake, in which he also tells them that they can't come back. Maybe it was the hot semen story that put it over the top.
Was This the Worst?
It's a very solid episode with great plots all around. While I do feel that Edgar doing improv is a little redundant, it is largely because we're coming off of a similar plot with BoJack Horseman from this past summer. For now, it works and the final cliffhanger is a nice touch. However, it's really a great episode for Lindsay, whose desire to be intelligent inevitably leads to some great against-type jokes that elevate her eventual breakdown. Likewise, Jimmy's quest to make sense of NCIS: Los Angeles is full of great moments. Even then, it's great to see the show get sexual again with Jimmy reading Gretchen erotic fiction while she masturbates. It's both funny and an endearing reminder of why their relationship works. It's a solid episode overall that maintains the status quo, and makes me seriously wonder if Jimmy actually likes NCIS: Los Angeles as much as he says, or if he was lying.
