The Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for a second season of hilarity and crime. After an impressive first season that chronicled one of the best new ensembles solving problems and forming unexpected relationships, the series is back to tackle bigger things. Will it be as great as the first season? Subplot of the Week: Gina (Chelsea Peretti) must convince Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) to not have his father (Stephen Root) marry her mom.
Best Joke: When trying to impress Hoytsman (Chris Parnell), Peralta makes a bet to see how tall Jeffords (Terry Crews) was in small foods. The results were odd at best.

Culprit: Despite getting her transferred, Holt is unable to properly tease Wunch because she has some other plans in store.

Resolution: After discovering Hoytsman doing drugs, Peralta arrests him and breaks up with Sophia in the process. Gina agrees to let Boyle's father marry her mother as long as they obey her rules. Holt feels ashamed that he is unable to play a quality prank on Wunch with her absence. Instead, he decides to change her spell check to have her name show up as butt.
Verdict: Overall a strong episode with a lot of interesting plots going on simultaneously. While I have enjoyed the Peralta and Sophia relationship, I haven't necessarily wanted to see it play out over the whole season. This is an interesting development and raises the question on if he will get back together with Santiago (Melissa Fumero) or what his future will be. Meanwhile, Boyle and his father finding some happiness is a nice look at things to come. However, this episode has a lot of great Holt moments in which he manages to play some childish pranks in his deadpan way. Who knew that doing something as obvious as changing a spell check to say butt would bring such laughs. Overall, plenty of solid moments and a reminder of this show's strength in an ensemble.
