TV Recap: Brooklyn Nine-Nine - "Halloween II"

The Golden Globe-winning comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for a second season of hilarity and crime. After an impressive first season that chronicled one of the best new ensembles solving problems and forming unexpected relationships, the series is back to tackle bigger things. Will it be as great as the first season? Stay tuned every Wednesday for the recap on that week's episode to find out through interesting tidbits including the best jokes and what the crew is up to that week.

Crime of the Week: In a bet between Holt (Andre Braugher) and Peralta (Andy Samberg), the latter hires a pickpocketer to steal Holt's watch.

Andy Samberg
Peralta Problem: Things go south real quick when the pickpocketer loses Holt's watch, thus sending him and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) on a quest to track it down.

Left to right: Terry Crews and Chelsea Peretti
Subplot of the Week: Gina Litelli (Chelsea Peretti) gets kicked out of Floorgasm, causing her to seek solace from Jeffords (Terry Crews), who becomes her dance partner.

Best Joke: Floorgasm is always a treat. This time, there's nothing quite like the belief that Gina's life is a Step Up movie. Nothing quite reflected that as greatly as the dance troupe showing up to her work and through a routine boot her from the group. The dancing has always been ridiculous, but there's something beautiful about it this time.

Andre Braugher
Culprit: Turns out that Holt himself had a way of double crossing Peralta all along and has been planning his revenge for a year.

Resolution: Peralta loses the bet after Holt reveals his intricate plan of how he convinced everyone to participate in his prank. This means that Peralta has five weeks of free overtime. Meanwhile, Gina and Jeffords end up starting their own dance group and winning everyone's hearts.

Left to right: Joe Lo Truglio and Samberg
Verdict: Another really good episode thanks to a pointlessly complicated reveal at the end. The series is always at its best when it double crosses a character and has a strange reveal at the end. In this case, the pursuit is just as fun and works in giving Peralta one of his better episodes. Also, Gina is becoming a better character this season and her story with Floorgasm this week proves that she has some great chops, especially when dancing with Jeffords. There's so much to like about this episode and while it may be a familiar formula, it is done uniquely enough that it doesn't matter. The team works together to solve crime and it allows everyone to shine.
