Welcome to Inventory: a monthly column in which we take a moment to look back at the past few weeks and highlight articles that I have written that may be worth a second glance. From the archives of Optigrab, The Oscar Buzz, and CinemaBeach, the following is what I feel to be the Top 10 articles that I have written in any given month and feel the need to highlight. Also covered will be any known details on what will be coming up in the month ahead. So without further ado, let's take inventory and see what I have to say.

Comments: The joint operation between Optigrab and Mike's Reviews is back with a look at which company makes the best superhero films (here is Mike's piece on DC Comics). I took the side of Marvel and explored in depth the reasons why despite these being big budgeted studio films, they are still essentially the best because of the auteur style behind it.

Comments: While I also did some coverage for the recent Los Angeles Film Festival, I was greatly taken aback by how impressive and fun this documentary on the forgotten rock trio was. It may stylistically already feel too nostalgic, but if you stick around for the story, it makes for one of the most engaging music documentaries of this year.

Comments: Director Ryan Coogler's debut came out of Sundance in a critical frenzy and has just now hit theaters in a bigger way. From the performance by Michael B. Jordan to the story of a man wanting to change on New Year's Eve, this is a great film that may be the first film of the year to actually do more than tempt Oscar consideration.

Article: Retro Grading:: Putney Swope (1969)

Comments: Robert Downey Sr.'s comedy about an advertisement agency gone wrong is a film so amazing and so hilarious that I felt the need to start a new column dedicated just to forgotten cinema. In this installment, I looked at the film and its influence on culture and notably how Paul Thomas Anderson's career is greatly owing a debt to this small film with more heart than technical merit.

Comments: While the much beloved sci-fi cartoon Futurama is ending its official run on a rather high note, it wasn't unexpected for the show to have a few bumps along the way. However, when it came to their last triptych, it is a bummer that they ended up creating their worst episode in one of their most beloved formats.

Comments: After an abysmal 2012 with Silver Linings Playbook, director David O. Russell returns to the screen with a film that looks far superior and more entertaining called American Hustle. In a way, it has been a great time for movie trailers, as it is teasing what is looking to be a rather solid, political time at the movies this Fall.

Comments: The Jenji Kohan series debuted on Netflix and almost immediately blew everyone away as one of the best new shows of the year. I tended to agree based on the first episode, which at very least makes me want to watch more programming on Netflix now that it can be taken seriously as producing fine quality products.

Comments: After pulling through one of the weirdest time scheduling conflicts in TV of the past few years, we made it through this sophomore series' second season and decided to look back at the pros and cons. Luckily, the show managed to have more good than bad and while it would make sense to blame ABC for the cancellation of one of the best shows, we could also just blame the first season's weaker episodes spliced into the airings.

Comments: This review is more a chance to geek out on how much I love the surreal, bizarre style that is Andy Kaufman and the audacity to release an actual album numerous decades after his death, which even that is the subject of debate. What we get is a fine selection of recordings of Kaufman and more importantly a look into how the genius thought and made up some bits that even decades later, are confusing on how honest they actually are.

Comments: As someone who was a big fan of director Steve McQueen's previous film Shame, I have longed for the film that will hopefully break him out to the mainstream and make him if not a household name, a respectable Oscar contender. With the release of this new trailer with an all-star cast, it is only time before people realize the brilliance and hopefully power that McQueen can bring to a film.
